My development as a future leader

To reflect myself, I find myself to be an easy going person, creativity, funny, skilled communication, easy to understand people or know the need of other, and easy to make friends. After i listed all my leadership brands, i want to know more of what model i would use to improve myself and it came up with Adair’s Model.

For this model, the leader is the center of action and argue the similarity of management and leadership. In Adair’s model, leader need to understand the task needs, individual needs, and building a potential team or team needs. Start from the first step, leader need to define task for group, planning the work, and control the quality of the work which i have all that as i mentioned it before. For individual needs, leader need to recognize personal problem of employee, understand their needs, giving credibility or reward, and look up for the conflict in the team. For the last one, Team needs, leader have to show their capability to communicate, control team member’s discipline, and motivate your team or create team spirit(Valuing-your-talent-framework, 2019). I know immediately that Adair’s model is going to be my model because i like planing, cared about detail and quality of the work, and maintain the relationship of team member is what i enjoy to do since high school.

To link my leadership brand with my career, i want to open my own men sportwear brand in Thailand which of course i am going to be a leader of my company. Now, fitness and gym are become a trend in Thailand. I see many opportunity in this business and the sportwear market inThailand is grow every year and it can still grow in the future. Moreover, the number of people that buying some product online is really help the brand in term of sales because it more convenience for people in this day to buy somethings while they stay at home.

There are not many Thai sportwear brand for men in Thailand, i believe i have the power to complete with others in term of price and design. My expect to make my business grow is to collaborate my brand with Thai’s football club. A lot of people in Thailand are crazy about football. To collaborate with football club will help my business expanding more market because each football club already have their fan based and the design of the sportwear will change every football season which is a guarantee that my business will continue to grow each year.

i set myself to listen to my team and trust them. This is the same leadership’s brand as “Adair’s model” that to plan and empower employees.I keep telling myself that i need to listen to my employee more because my business is depend on many factor especially design. I really need to listen and be open mined on the design team the most because in clothing business, the first thing that impress people and attract customer to buy our brand is the design. So, one day i know that i will run out of the design of the cloth so when i run out of idea, my design team will ready to support and step up to lead that particular project.

Talking about evaluate myself, no one will describe me better than friend or people in my class. A group work in class teach me a lot in term of working as a team and leadership. Getting feedback from the person that close to me is actually priceless because it show how much they care and want to see a better version of me. Furthermore, the first feedback that my friend gave me is “i need to ask question immediately if i do not understand somethings”. My problem is sometimes when i do not understand the order i hesitate to ask question. I always wail until that person finish talking and that is too late. I actually get the answer. My development is to ask it right after i do not understand so that my group and i can begin to plan the work early rather than wait for the person to finish talking and then ask. 

Second, “i need to listen to the order carefully”. To evaluate this feedback, sometimes i misunderstood the order and do the task wrong which is a very unacceptable thing that could happen to me and i am not happy with it at all. My development with this issue is to pay more attention in every task order and repeat the order with my friend or teacher to make sure that i receive the right message so i an do task the right ways.

And Third, “when i want to share my idea i need to share it as fast as i can” to reflect this problem, i often get use to work individually so i feel shy and do not want to disrespect other idea so sometimes i decide not to say it which is often happen to me at the first week of this semester. I develop myself to be more teamwork in a week after and have a courage to share my idea more and more.


In the future, i will use all the feedback that i receive from my group to adjust my weakness and stay open to receive more in the future. Furthermore, Adair’s model will always be my leadership model and remind me to do not forget to value people around me especially my employees. It help me to reach my goal faster because to know what my weakness is and using Adair’s model as a pattern to be a leader will help me to stay on the right route which is to be a leader of my own sportwear company as good as possible. I will also empower and trust my team because i want my employees to know that they are important and part of my company.

    1. From my experience, I prefer democratic leadership because as a normal employees, it is important for me to work freely and feel empowered. it shows that the company trust me so it remind me to have self-manage in term of work quality and responsibility.

  1. Hi Songkiatrit, Maybe you can do some more reserch with Ricardo Semler case study, he mentioned about a democratic leadership style that you may want to apply for your future career. Do you think this matches leadership style and how do you apply the democratic leadership style for your future sports brand?

    1. Thank you for your suggestion, I have though about Ricardo’s case too when I analyse my leadership brand. I really respect his leadership style and hope to be good as him. I can see a lot of similarity between my leadership style and democratic leadership. I will define my employees by their knowledge and work quality and empower them as much as I can.

    1. To be honest, I really hope my company to be as big as Nike but it is just my goal. I always set my goal high, sometimes I just set it to be very high so I can not reach it. The reason why I doing that is because I want to keep motivate myself and to remind myself that nothing come easy. if it is easy to reach so does everyone.

    1. Thank you for the question, I think the theory will help me a lot because to have my own company, it is important for me to act properly and be a good leader. I need to lead my employees and believe in them as much as they believe in me.

    1. I hope Lewin’s change management model can help my company in many. It will help my company to change our system and technic while faced some bad situation. Moreover, Lewin’s change management model has three stages such as unfreezing, changing, and refreezing.
